It is one of the widespread problems faced by users. Due to a long duration of inactivity, the ink in the cartridges may dry up, and in the process clog the nozzle. Irrespective of the fact whether you use an authentic Epson printer cartridge or not, this issue may arise.
Primary causes of Blocked Epson printer nozzles
● The most prevalent scenario due to which a nozzle clogs are when the level of ink in the cartridges is low, yet you continue printing. Usually, when the ink cartridges are replaced, the printer equips the printer head and this process is called priming. In priming, the printer pushes out the air and at times, too much ink is propelled which clogs the nozzle.
● The printer isn’t turned off. When the printer is turned on after it is in the off state, a cleaning process is implemented.
● When the printer isn’t used frequently, the ink may dry up blocking the nozzles.
Method to clean the printer head
Method 1:
Epson printers come with an automated mechanism to clean the printer head.
● Tap the ‘Home’ button and select ‘Setup’ followed by ‘Maintenance’.
● Choose ‘Printhead Nozzle Check’
● This shall result in a printout. The printout shall have four colored grids. If there aren’t any gaps, pick ‘Done’.
● If you find any gaps, choose ‘Clean the printhead’ and continue.
A note of warning: Secure that the printer is switched on during the cleaning process, as turning it off during the procedure might cause damage to the system.
● Run 2–3 cycles if the first cycle shows no efficacy.
● In case, there is still no visible improvement, let the printer rest for at least 6 hours.
● Once 6 hours lapse, conduct a cleaning cycle to check whether the print quality improves.
Method 2: Using a soft surface:-
● Open the top of the printer after turning it off and locate the print head assembly.
● Find a small lever that shall pop when the printer is not functioning. Shift the lever forward and down to set free the print head.
● If there isn’t any lever, give a print command, and when the assembly is in the center unplug the printer.
● You can locate the sponges and using a dropper or a soft surface clean them.
● If using the dropper, fill it with distilled water or Windex solution and set the solution there for 15 minutes.
● If using a soft surface, immerse it in distilled water and set it near the sponges for 15 minutes. Remove it after the time elapses.
● Once done, try a sample print to check whether the issue is resolved or not.
